How much does a small move in Kraków cost?
The price of a small move in Kraków depends mainly on the amount of items, the distance, the floor (and lift) and the date. For a studio flat or a single room, one trip in a van with a driver is often enough instead of a removal company with a crew — and that's what lowers the cost most. Below we explain what the price is made of, how to prepare so you pay less, and when a van is enough versus when a removal company is the better choice.
What the price of a move depends on
Amount of items
The biggest factor. A dozen boxes and a few pieces of furniture fit in one van trip; a full two-room flat with large wardrobes doesn't. The number of trips or the size of the vehicle translates directly into the price.
Distance
Moving within one Kraków district costs differently from moving from Kraków to Krzeszowice or Alwernia. It's not only the drive with your things that counts, but also the vehicle getting to you.
Floor, lift and access
A third floor with no lift, a narrow staircase or a long walk from the parking spot to the door — all of these make loading and unloading take longer. If a company charges by the hour, that raises the price directly; if it quotes a fixed amount, it's built into the quote.
Date
The start and end of the month, weekends and the weeks before the academic year are when many people move. Free slots are harder to find then, and some companies charge more.
Help carrying, taking furniture apart, packing
Removal companies often price separately: porters, taking furniture apart and putting it back together, packing and materials (boxes, wrap). The more you do yourself, the less you pay.
How to prepare so the move costs less
- Get rid of what you don't need before the move. Sell, give away or throw out what you won't use. Every box less is less space in the vehicle.
- Pack yourself, and early. Boxes of a similar size, labelled, taped and ready by the door. The most expensive move is one where the crew waits for someone to finish packing.
- Take furniture apart. Table legs, bed frames, tall shelving — taken apart they take less space and are easier to carry.
- Book the lift and a spot outside the building. If the building management requires a lift booking, do it in advance. Check where the vehicle can stop as close to the entrance as possible.
- Prepare appliances the day before. A defrosted fridge and a drained washing machine with its transit bolts in mean less stress on the day — see our guides on fridge transport and moving a washing machine without transit bolts.
- Choose a quieter date. Midweek and mid-month are usually easier to book.
- Send photos before the quote. An accurate quote before the ride protects you from surprises "on the spot".
When a van with a driver is enough, and when you need a removal company
A van with a driver is enough when:
- you're moving out of a studio flat, a room in a shared flat or student halls,
- you mostly have boxes, bags and a few pieces of furniture that come apart,
- you can help carry or have a helper,
- everything fits in one, at most two, trips.
A removal company with a crew is better when:
- you're moving a whole flat or house,
- you have very heavy items: a piano, a safe, massive one-piece wardrobes,
- you need furniture taken apart and reassembled, packing and several porters,
- the move has to fit in a few hours without splitting it into trips.
Choosing between these is the simplest way to a cheap move in Kraków: you don't pay for a lorry and a crew you don't need.
How much a small move costs with dowieziemycie.pl
We're a local carrier from near Kraków: one driver, one Volkswagen Multivan with the seats removed. We're not a removal company with a crew — and that's why, for a small move, we can be cheaper and simpler to deal with.
- We set the price before the ride, based on photos (or a list of items) and both addresses.
- The amount is fixed — no meter and no extras on the spot.
- You pay by card, BLIK or cash to the driver.
We charge from 80 PLN per hour of work plus 100 PLN per 100 km; at night the hourly rate is higher (from 100 PLN per hour). Carrying in and out, loading and unloading are extra services — we price them individually for each job, as they depend on what we're moving, how heavy it is and which floor it goes to.
We cover Kraków and the area around it: Rybna, Liszki, Kaszów, Czernichów, Sanka, Przeginia Narodowa, Alwernia and Krzeszowice.
Common questions about the price of a move
Is a quote over the phone binding?
With a fixed price — yes, as long as the scope doesn't change. That's why photos matter: if on the day there turns out to be twice as much, an extra trip will be needed.
Does it pay to move in several trips?
Over a short distance, often yes — two van trips can cost less than one trip in a big vehicle with a crew.
Do I have to pay in advance?
It depends on the company. With us you pay the driver, by card, BLIK or cash.
Moving-day checklist
A week before: confirm the date and time with the carrier, book the lift if required, get boxes, tape and a marker, and start packing things you don't use daily.
The day before: defrost the fridge and drain the washing machine, take furniture apart and keep the screws in labelled bags taped to the furniture, pack an overnight bag (chargers, toiletries, documents, medicines) and charge your phone.
On the day: put boxes and furniture close to the door, keep the hallway and staircase clear, check where the vehicle can stop at the new address, and photograph the meters if you're handing the old flat back.
Summary
The price of a small move is decided by the amount of items, the distance, the floor and the date. You save the most by matching the size of the service to the size of the move: for a studio or a room, a van with a driver is usually enough. Pack early, take furniture apart and send photos before the quote.
