How to get IKEA furniture home without a car (Kraków)

You can get IKEA furniture home without a car in three ways: order delivery from the store, hire a van and move it yourself, or book transport with a driver who collects the packages and brings them to your address. The cheapest option depends on how much you're buying and how far away you live — below we compare them one by one and explain what to watch out for so the packages arrive intact.

Option 1: IKEA delivery

The simplest route: when buying in store or online, you choose home delivery. IKEA shows the price and available dates at checkout, and the order is brought by a courier or transport company.

When it makes sense: with a large order (a whole kitchen, several wardrobes), when the date isn't urgent and the delivery time window suits you.

What to watch out for:

  • delivery often ends at the building entrance or your door — carrying in and assembly are often separate, paid services; check exactly what the option includes,
  • with a small purchase (one chest of drawers, a chair) the delivery cost can be high compared with the item,
  • in busy seasons, dates can get longer.

Option 2: hiring a van and moving it yourself

You can hire a van from a rental company and move the furniture yourself.

When it makes sense: when you have a driving licence, a helper for carrying and experience driving a bigger vehicle.

What to watch out for:

  • on top of the rental price come fuel, a deposit and the time to pick up and return the van,
  • you pack and secure the load yourself — without straps, packages slide and get damaged,
  • parking a big vehicle at the store and outside a block of flats in Kraków can be a challenge.

Option 3: transport with a driver

You book furniture transport with a driver: someone comes with a van, loads the packages and delivers them to your address.

When it makes sense: with a few packages or a few pieces of furniture, when you have no car and no wish to deal with a rental, when you need a specific date, or when you also have a second-hand item to pick up and want everything moved in one trip.

What to watch out for:

  • ask whether the price is fixed and agreed before the ride or worked out "on the spot",
  • agree who collects the order from the store — whether you need to ride along or the order number is enough,
  • ask whether the driver helps carry things in.

How to check whether IKEA packages will fit in the vehicle

This is the most important step, and the one people forget. IKEA furniture is flat-packed, but some packages are very long — wardrobe parts, bed frames, worktops.

  1. Open the product page and find the section with package dimensions and weight. IKEA lists the number of packages, the size of each and their weight.
  2. Note the longest package — it decides whether everything fits.
  3. Add up the weight — several heavy packages are not only about space but also about carrying.
  4. Send these details to the carrier. A photo of your shopping list with dimensions is enough to judge whether everything goes in one trip.

The load space is about 131 cm high and 166 cm wide, with roughly 3.2–4.3 m³ of room once the seats are out (depending on how it's measured). Send us long packages, such as wardrobe doors, with their dimensions and we'll check they fit.

Collection from the store, a pick-up point or a seller

You can collect IKEA purchases in store or — for online orders — at a pick-up point. With transport with a driver, you need to agree who physically collects the goods.

  • You ride along with the driver — the simplest option: you collect the order, the packages go into the van, and you drive to your address together.
  • The driver collects alone — this usually needs the order number and confirmation that they may collect it on your behalf. If you can't ride along, let us know and we'll agree the collection details for the job.

The same trip can include picking up an item from a second-hand ad or a consignment shop — a used wardrobe and IKEA flat-packs often travel together.

Carrying in and assembly

Transport ends at your address, but the furniture still has to go in and be assembled. Before you book:

  • check whether the building has a lift and whether the packages fit in it — long packages sometimes only go up the stairs,
  • clear space for the packages so they don't block the way,
  • plan the assembly: yourself, with friends, or with an assembly service.

Carrying in and out, loading and unloading are extra services — we price them individually for each job, as they depend on what we're moving, how heavy it is and which floor it goes to.

IKEA furniture transport in Kraków with dowieziemycie.pl

We drive a Volkswagen Multivan with the seats removed around Kraków and nearby — Rybna, Liszki, Czernichów, Kaszów, Sanka, Alwernia, Krzeszowice. Booking looks like this:

  1. You send a photo of your shopping list (or the furniture) and both addresses.
  2. You get a fixed price before the ride.
  3. We come, load, secure everything with straps and blankets and bring it to your door.

You pay by card, BLIK or cash to the driver. We charge from 80 PLN per hour of work plus 100 PLN per 100 km; at night the hourly rate is higher (from 100 PLN per hour).

How to secure IKEA packages in the vehicle

Put the heaviest and longest packages at the bottom, flat on the floor — never upright against a wall, where they can fall when braking. Stack lighter packages on top, strap the whole stack to the anchor points, and put a blanket between the packages and the vehicle walls. Carry glass and mirrors separately, upright against something soft and secured against sliding.

Summary

With a large order, store delivery can be convenient. With a few packages and no car, the quickest and simplest is usually transport with a driver — as long as you check package sizes before the ride and agree who collects the order. Hiring a van makes sense if you like doing everything yourself.
